WATER RESISTANCE

At Ltd Watches we want you to enjoy your watch for as long as possible, we provide you with this guide so you know what you can and cannot do with your watch.

3ATM/ 3 BAR/ 30 Metres/ 98 feet

Suitable for everyday use, will withstand accidental splashing but NOT suitable for swimming.

5ATM/ 5 BAR/ 50 METRES/ 165 FEET

Suitable for everyday use, better water resistance than 3ATM however we would advise not to swim dive or snorkel.

10ATM/ 10 BAR/ 100 Metres/ 330 Feet

Suitable for swimming and snorkelling however we would advise you not to dive. We would also advise you to rinse your watch if it has been used in salt water as salty water can damage the seals.

If no water resistance is mentioned we would advise you not to get the watch wet in any way.

FAQ’s

Q) Will my watch always be water resistant?

A) There are numerous reasons why a watch can lose its level of water resistance. Examples are damage to the outer case, wearing of seals and having the watch opened by a non-authorised repairer.  If you see condensation appearing in your watch it is no longer water resistant and you must get it looked at by the manufacturer or an approved repairer.

Q) I have a leather strap watch that is water resistant to 10ATM can I swim in it?

A) Technically yes the watch will withstand the water, however to extend the life of your leather strap we would advise no. If you want to swim with a watch we would advise silicon/rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets.

Q) Why can I not swim in my watch if it is water resistant to 30m. I will not be going that deep under water?

A) Water resistance has always been a difficult topic when it comes to watches, we do not use metres we prefer to use ATM (Atmospheres, a measure of pressure). When a watch’s water resistance is tested, it is tested in a lab in static conditions. When a watch is worn in the water you are not static and the pressure on the watch is greater than that if the watch was static.
